Sunday Funday #22

Hooray! It's time for Sunday Funday!

This past week was wild and crazy and hectic! The RiceCakes had a 4 day weekend for... nope, not President's Day... MARDI GRAS! Life on the Gulf Coast means letting the good times roll and not being in school for Mardi Gras Weekend! We went to a parade, danced to the music, caught loads of beads, stuffed animals, and plastic cups (hooray for free junk!)

The kids went back to school on Wednesday and all said that they definitely should ALWAYS only have 3 days of school per week! Can't argue with that! I know I'd prefer to only get up at 6:45am 3 times a week! ha ha!

The rest of my week was spent doing "Mom stuff" on the phone. Literally, I think I spent 2 straight days on the phone doing house-related stuff. My brain was fried by the end. Kudos to anyone with a paying office job. I HATE being on the phone. Seriously, I hate it. I don't know how people with jobs that require being on the phone, do it. You're amazing.

Great Expectations Guest Post

Ever since I met Greta over at Not Enough Patience and Never Enough Jewelry, I knew we'd be buddies. Greta's a SAHM of four kiddos... I'm a SAHM of four kiddos. Greta's got a husband who doubles as her BFF and partner in the battle of raising the four little cupcakes! I've got that in my hubby too! She lives out in the country. I love living where I can't see my neighbors. We've got the same view of the world and I totally dig that.

I was so excited when she invited me to guest post for her new series "Great Expectations"! It was a great chance to write about what I think about life as a military wife. My life's changed a LOT since I first married Dave. My perspective on my role as a military spouse has changed as well. So... head on over to Greta's to see my take on it.

Sunday Funday #21

Things around here are about to get really busy! Baseball/softball season starts in a couple weeks and so, our family will be spending a LOT of time outside! Even though juggling four different teams can be a challenge sometimes, you can bet that I WON'T really be missing housework. Yeah, laundry might pile up but, when does it NOT?! No one will die if dishes sit in the sink for a few more hours because our family is out in the sunshine cheering for each other. The RiceCakes will remember the fun they had playing ball with their buddies this season AND that their parents were there as often as physically possible. They won't remember that I didn't mop... or that bathrooms weren't sparkling. The season is really only about 12 weeks long... the time we'll spend as a family is more important than the stuff that won't get done during that time. Besides, all that vitamin D from the sun and endorphins from running around make me happy! Happy Mamas don't care if their house is spotless! (at least for a season. Let's not get Hoarder-ish ok?)

The Littlest RiceCake Turned 6!

We love birthdays at our house. We don't usually have huge parties but, we love to celebrate with our closest buddies. Joshua's birthday last week was no exception!

Things have been crazy around here lately! Dave went to a 2 week Water Well Drilling School with the Air Force. We've been battling our home builder over a mold problem under the vinyl flooring in our house due to their negligence for the last year. Currently, all of the flooring in my kitchen, utility room, and 2 downstairs bathrooms has been torn out and I'm going slightly nuts over how much still needs to be torn out in order for us to install new flooring. Between all that, all the regular stuff (school projects for the 3 biggest RiceCakes, music lessons for those same 3 kiddos, teaching chess 2 days a week, volunteering at AWANA one evening a week, and keeping up with Dave's ever-changing railroad schedule!), and a handful of major trips to plan for later in the year... Joshy's birthday sort of snuck up on us!

Seriously... wasn't it JUST Christmas?! HOW is it February already?!

We threw a little party at the park the weekend before his actual birthday and invited some buddies to hang out with us. Joshy LOVES Cars 2 so, that was the "theme" for his party. Publix made a totally fabulous cake!

The kid had a blast! His buddies gave him some Captain America dress up stuff that blew his mind. Joshy LOVES super heroes. He cannot wait for The Avengers movie to come out in May. The Captain America gear was perfect for him! He was SO EXCITED that he actually slept in the helmet for 3 days after that!

We celebrated at home on his actual birthday. He asked for a yellow cake with lemon icing because he totally hates chocolate. While that makes me question whether he's actually MY kid... since I dig lemon icing, I cut him slack.

While the other RiceCakes love having complicated cakes, usually involving Teddy Grahams "dressed up" in crazy outfits. (Remember the Teddy Graham baseball players? And the hula dancers? And the scuba divers with mermaids?) Joshua has his own preference. It doesn't matter what the other kids like, HE wants the same thing every year. A rectangle shaped cake with sprinkles that HE PUTS ON and a Monster Truck to drive through the icing on top. So...

But still... I can't quite fathom how SIX YEARS have passed since I was looking at this chubby little nugget of a face!

This week has been really busy at my house. SO BUSY that I've hardly had time to write at all! Between Joshy's birthday, teaching chess, music lessons for 3 out of 4 RiceCakes, and having the floor torn out of all of the downstairs of my house... right now is the first chance I've had to be still!

PS... HOW the heck can it possibly be FEBRUARY?! Wasn't it JUST Christmas? What the heck!?!
